Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani to support Congress in Gujarat election

Jignesh-Mevani

The renowned Dalit leader, Jignesh Mevani, who has been actively campaigning among the Dalit community in Gujarat and across the country against the saffron party since the occurrence of the Una incident (in which Dalit people were mercilessly flogged by upper caste goons), has participated in a closed-door meeting with the Congress scion, Rahul Gandhi, which has visited the election-bound state to support, guide and lead the grand old party’s election campaign, which is aimed to replace the rightist administration led by the BJP with the centrist administration.

Immediately after the meeting, Mr Mevani has asserted that he would urge his supporters to vote against the BJP, indicating that he is open to support the Congress party in this election.

He has claimed that the Congress party has agreed to incorporate all his demands in the party’s election manifesto.

It is clear that the embattled Congress party, which has faced several serious defeats in the recent past, is trying to gain the support of all who stand against the right-wing party.

Earlier, it tactically made an alliance with the supporters of the Patidar community leader, Hardik Patel, and ensured the support of PAAS.

Will Rahul’s strategy give any positive output?
