A severe earthquake of 6.9-magnitude has taken at least ninety lives and injured more than two hundred people in the Indonesian Island of Lombok.
The authorities are at present on a challenging task of evacuating tens of thousands of people, who have been left stranded due to the terrific natural disaster, in the Lombok islands and other islands like Gili located around Lombok.
They have admitted that they lack proper facilities to carry out the task in a timely manner. Surprisingly, they have managed to help a large number of stranded people. It is clear that the embattled nation urgently requires foreign assistance to perform its rescue duties in an efficient and timely manner.
There are reports that among those stranded there are at least one hundred tourists. Some European tourists have informed the International media houses that they could only see panic and fear everywhere.
Shortly after the first set of tremors jolted the islands, the authorities have announced a tsunami warning. Anyway, it has later been removed.
As per a media report, some tourists have even climbed risky peaks to escape from the forecasted tsunami.
The death rates are likely to increase in the coming hours. In certain regions, the government officials have faced serious difficulties in carrying out their rescue operations.
As per a latest report, no tourist has been reported missing or killed. Tough the earthquake has smashed all communication and electricity networks, the authorities have managed to set up a parallel network to keep the stranded people, primarily tourists, connected.
