Missing JNU student’s mother, sister detained by the Delhi police

The Delhi police on last day arrested the mother and sister of the missing JNU student along with the protesting students who were marching towards India gate, triggering strong criticism from the political leaders like Arvind Kejriwal.  As per the report, they were later released by the police after the brief detention. When the Delhi Chief Minister visited the police station, he was informed by the police authorities that missing student’s mother, Fatima Nafees, and his sister, Sadaf, were safely sent back to their relatives home situated in Delhi. A national media reported that the police officials literally dragged Fatima and Sadaf into the police van. Meanwhile, a police source says that the JNU students organised a march towards the India gate without procuring proper permission from the police authorities. When they were asked to go back they purposefully marched forward forcefully, it added. Section 144 had been imposed in the area on last day due to Chhat Puja, it further added. After an alleged hostel scuffle between the ABVP activists and missing student regarding a hostel election campaign, Najeeb, a first-year Biotechnology student hailing from Utter Pradesh, went missing on October 15. It is learned that the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, met the President and gave him an official request letter urging him to strengthen the search operation. For last twenty-three days, the JNU students have been organising series of demonstrations and strikes both inside and outside the JNU campus demanding the same. The BJP accused the JNU students and opposition parties of politicising the incident unnecessarily.
