The Supreme Court of India has rejected plea opposing the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as the special director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The writ petition opposing the appointment was filed by an NGO, named ‘Common Cause’, which in the recent past took to court several issues related to the NDA’s appointments.

As per the report, the judgment has been delivered by Judge R K Agrawal and Judge A M Sapre.

Accepting the central government’s argument that the appointed special director has all the necessary qualities to be inducted in such a high position, the court has said that the petition filed by the NGO is dismissed.

During the trial, the central government has argued that the newly appointed special director has an outstanding career record. The government’s representative, in the court, has further stated that the new director has personally monitored several high profile cases.
