The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who reached Mangalore last day, is set to visit the Cyclone Ockhi-affected regions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep to review the status of the rescue and relief operations being carried out by the central agencies and the respective state administrations.
Last day, through his twitter handle, he assured that his government was seriously observing the developments in the region and ensured that all affected get proper access to relief and rescue programs.
In his one-day trip to the cyclone-affected South, at first, the Prime Minister will visit Kavratti in Lakshadweep, and from there, he will travel towards Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. By evening, he will reach Trivandrum.
In Trivandrum, he will visit Poonthura, one of the cyclone affected regions in the city. After his site visits, he will meet the Kerala government representatives particularly the Kerala CM, cabinet ministers and other top government officials including the chief secretary and district collector.
It is learned that the Kerala government will request the Prime Minister to announce this cyclone disaster as a national disaster.
The Tamil Nadu opposition parties particularly DMK has already demanded special relief fund from the central government to the state.
At this moment, it is not clear how much the state will ask.
