Protest against Spanish court’s verdict in ‘Wolf Pack’ case shakes Madrid

“If forcing a defenceless woman to perform sexual act, filming the cruel act, and boasting about the shameful act in the social media platform by a group of merciless men is not an act of violence against women and is not eligible for a stringent punishment, what is it called” ask protesters, who have assembled in the streets of Madrid and several other cities in Spain to protest against a court’s verdict which has acquitted all five members of the infamous group wolf pack, who allegedly raped a women, filmed the act and discussed about it in social media platforms, of rape changes.

Anyway, all five culprits will have to face a severe punishment of nine year imprisonment and have to remit a huge fine, as the court has, though acquitted them of rape charges, found them guilty of sexual abuse.

As per Spain’s law, rape and sexual abuse are two different things. In the latter, there is no element of violence or intimidation.

The protesters believe that the verdict is the perfect reflection of the patriarchal attitude of the Spanish judicial system. They point out the fact that the courts cannot be so distant from the society for which it exists.
