The Rajya Sabha lawmakers belonging to the opposition parties have demanded more independency to the Delhi government, which is lead by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal who created history by defeating the two major national parties which were competing to attain supremacy in the capital city in the last assembly election, and which is at present suffering the aftereffects of a system which stipulates two decision making bodies for the Union Territories like the national capital and Puducherry.

The issue has been raised in the house while discussing the NCT of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2017, which extends immunity to illegal constructions in Delhi till December 31, 2020.

The lawmakers have alleged that Lt. Governor Anil Baijal is not letting the Delhi government, which was elected through the democratic election process prescribed by the constitution, to work independently.

There were reports that the conflicts between the democratically elected government and the nominated head of the state are making the life of the Delhi people extremely difficult.

The issue has been initially raised in the upper house by Samajwadi Party member Naresh Agarwal. Soon after that initial presentation, Trinamool Congress member Nadimul Haque and CPI leader D Raja have come forward with similar arguments.

The opposition leaders have even pointed out that the Delhi CM was purposefully excluded from an event, which held in the state, and in which the Prime Minister and UP CM were invited.

Anyway, the ruling party has denounced all allegations unanimously triggered against them by the RS opposition members.
