Trump Envoy Heads to Moscow for Ukraine Peace Talks with Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will visit Moscow this week for renewed peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the White House confirmed on Tuesday. Witkoff, who has previously held three extended meetings with Putin on the Ukraine conflict, was personally briefed by Trump earlier in the day. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump is eager to see an end to the war and is frustrated by the lack of progress from both sides.

The talks in Moscow coincide with upcoming discussions in London, where Trump’s Ukraine envoy General Keith Kellogg is expected to represent the U.S. following Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s withdrawal. The diplomatic efforts reflect a broader push for a ceasefire, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressing openness to meet Trump later this week during the funeral of Pope Francis. Zelenskiy reiterated that Ukraine is ready to negotiate once fighting ceases.

Meanwhile, Russian President Putin has reportedly signaled a willingness to halt military operations along the current front lines as part of a possible peace agreement with the U.S. administration. According to the Financial Times, the United States last week floated a controversial proposal involving recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, as international efforts intensify to end the prolonged conflict.
