Uruguayan embassy likely to grant asylum to Peru’s ex-President

The ex-President of Peru, Alan Garcia, is likely to be granted asylum by Uruguay. Recently, the two time President officially filed the request for asylum in the Uruguayan embassy located in the capital city of Peru, Lima. The move was made as a precaution to contain the pressure exerted over him by the Peruvian legal system.

The Peruvian Court lately ordered the ex-President not to leave the country till the declaration of the final verdict of the graft case registered against him.

As per the case details, the ex-President accepted bribe from a Brazilian company who came forward to construct a railway line in the capital city of Peru during his second tenure as the President of the South American country.

Mr Garcia strongly denied all such allegations and alleged that the allegations against was part of a big conspiracy hatched by his political opponents to reduce his acceptance among the population of the country.

It is to be noted that still Mr Garcia is one of the most powerful political leaders in the South American country of Peru.

His supporters have claimed that they have enough reasons to believe that the charges against their leader were politically motivated. They have asserted that their leader would come clean of all charges soon.
