Anti-corruption activist demands CBI probe into Jharkhand CD row

A renowned anti-corruption activist, Durga Oraon, had on last day demanded CBI investigation over the ‘Jharkhand RS malpractice’. The activist, under the banner ‘Jharkhand Against Corruption’, has submitted a PIL in the Jharkhand High Court requesting the same. It is learned that the petitioner has also approached the Election Commission with a similar request.   Earlier, there were allegations that the Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Raghubar Das had allegedly conspired with senior police officials and political workers to influence the congress MLAs during the Rajya Sabha polls. Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) leader Babulal Marandi had recently released a video CD containing the footages and audio clips of the conspiracy. According to the report, the BJP’s top leaders approached congress leader Yogendra Sao seeking his support. Yogendra Sao’s wife Nirmala Kumari is the congress MLA from Barkagaon constituency.

Meanwhile, the senior BJP leader has defended the allegations raised against its senior leaders, saying we can seek support from any corner of the political faction in a democratic system. Notably, the BJP has marked astonishing victory in both vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha polls. Earlier in 2010 and 2012, the political parties had raised similar allegations about the RS elections. In both occasions, the top court had effectively interfered to uphold the ‘free and fair’ electoral system. The main oppositions parties of Jharkhand, Jharkhand Mukthi Morcha and Congress, have already criticised the CM over the alleged malpractice. As per the report, JMM is planning to conduct protest across the state in the wake of latest revelation.
