Several hours after India faced a small setback in the first round of the International Court of Justice election, the country has begun its efforts to ensure that its nominee gains a seat in the prestigious judicial forum, which will decide the future of the Kulbhushan Jadhav case.
The nominee of the United Kingdom, Christopher Greenwood, is the prime opponent of Judge Dalveer Bhandari, the Indian nominee to the ICJ.
The candidate, who wants to win a seat in the ICJ, must secure at least 97 votes in the UN General Assembly and around eight votes in the UN Security Council.
In the first round, the Indian nominee got the support of 115 members in the UNGA, but failed to gain the assent of UNSC as he only won six votes there. On the other hand, the British nominee won nearly nine votes in the UNSC, but only got below 74 votes in the UNGA.
Anyway, the next round, which is a very crucial round for the Indian camp and the UK, is likely to take place on Monday.
The sources, who have knowledge about the matter, have claimed that it will be a busy weekend for the Indians. It has been said that even the top leaders such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are likely to put their efforts to get our nominee elected to the ICJ post.
