US-Iran Interim Accord May Be Signed in Switzerland on Friday

An interim accord between the United States and Iran aimed at helping end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could be signed on Friday at the Buergenstock mountaintop resort in central Switzerland, according to a statement released by the Swiss government on Tuesday. The agreement is expected to take the form of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

The Swiss foreign ministry said it has been in close contact with the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar regarding preparations for the possible signing. Swiss officials noted that the proposed venue, located in the canton of Nidwalden, was jointly suggested by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as representatives from both the United States and Iran.

While the accord has not yet been finalized, Swiss authorities indicated that the signing is currently scheduled for June 19. The development marks a significant diplomatic effort involving multiple international mediators and could represent a major step toward reducing tensions and advancing peace initiatives in the region.
