The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to conclude its current term in the coming days, with seven major cases still awaiting decisions. Among the most closely watched are three cases involving President Donald Trump’s expansive use of presidential authority, two election-related disputes, a case on transgender athletes in school sports, and another examining the legality of law enforcement’s use of “geofence” warrants. The court, which holds a 6-3 conservative majority, is scheduled to issue additional rulings on Monday.
Three pending cases focus on Trump’s efforts to expand presidential powers, including his attempts to remove members of the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Trade Commission, as well as his executive order limiting birthright citizenship. The justices have also heard challenges involving Mississippi’s mail-in ballot rules, campaign finance restrictions, and laws in Idaho and West Virginia that prohibit transgender athletes from competing on female sports teams in public schools and universities. Conservative members of the court appeared sympathetic to several of these measures during oral arguments.
The remaining case addresses whether police use of “geofence” warrants, which collect cellphone location data from devices near crime scenes, violates constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. The court has recently delivered a mix of rulings involving the Trump administration, backing several immigration-related policies while also rejecting the president’s emergency tariffs earlier this year. The forthcoming decisions are expected to have significant implications for presidential authority, election law, civil rights, and digital privacy across the United States.
