Wildfire Near England Nuclear Sites Contained, Officials Say

A major wildfire burning along England’s eastern coast is not threatening nearby nuclear facilities, authorities confirmed on Thursday. The blaze at Dunwich Heath, described as one of Suffolk’s most challenging fire incidents, is located a few miles north of EDF’s Sizewell B nuclear power station and the Sizewell C plant currently under construction.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said emergency crews had intensified their response as the fire forced evacuations and road closures in surrounding communities. However, officials stressed that the terrain and water bodies separating the wildfire from the nuclear sites significantly reduce the risk of the flames spreading toward the facilities.

EDF stated that operations at Sizewell B remain unaffected, while Sizewell C officials said the wildfire poses only a low risk to the construction project. Britain’s Housing Minister Angela Rayner said the government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide any necessary support.
