The United States has added 43 more Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, citing alleged links to human rights abuses against Uyghurs and other minority groups in China’s Xinjiang region. The latest move, announced on Friday, restricts the import of goods produced by these companies into the United States. Among the firms included is Hunan Aihua Group, one of China’s largest capacitor manufacturers, along with companies from the pharmaceutical, metals and cotton industries.
The new additions mark the first expansion of the list under the Trump administration and increase the total number of entities covered by the law from 144 to 187. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, signed into law in December 2021, aims to prevent products linked to forced labor from entering the American market. Hunan Aihua Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The United States has repeatedly accused Chinese authorities of operating internment camps and carrying out human rights violations against Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, allegations that Washington has described as genocide. China has consistently denied the accusations, maintaining that its policies in the region are intended to combat extremism and promote economic development. The latest restrictions are expected to further intensify tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade and human rights issues.
