Dollar General Raises Sales Forecast as Value Shopping Gains

Dollar General raised its annual comparable-sales forecast on Thursday, signaling continued strength as cost-of-living pressures push consumers toward lower-priced essentials. The retailer now expects same-store sales to increase 2.5% to 2.9%, up from its previous forecast of 2.2% to 2.7%.

The company’s quarterly same-store sales rose 3.5% year over year, driven by a 2% increase in customer traffic and a 1.5% rise in average transaction value. The results suggest value-conscious shoppers continue to favor discount retailers amid broader economic uncertainty.

Investors responded positively, with Dollar General shares climbing about 8% in premarket trading. The stronger outlook highlights how discount chains are benefiting as consumers increasingly trade down to manage household budgets.
