Democrats sharply criticized the Trump administration after reports revealed that the Navy and Air Force are poised to cancel nearly completed software projects worth more than $800 million. According to Reuters, the move comes amid efforts by some officials to steer future projects toward companies such as Salesforce and Palantir, raising concerns of a costly do-over at taxpayers’ expense.
Senator Tim Kaine called the decision “reeking of corruption,” noting its timing shortly after Palantir CEO Alex Karp spoke at House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Wyoming donor retreat. House Armed Services Committee members Maggie Goodlander, Salud Carbajal, and Jill Tokuda also voiced outrage, calling the cancellations an “insult to taxpayers and servicemembers” and warning against stripping away oversight safeguards.
The controversy highlights growing Democratic concern over waste at the Pentagon, despite Trump’s pledge to cut government inefficiency. Critics argue that canceling projects close to rollout undermines both military readiness and fiscal responsibility, particularly as the administration continues to prioritize speed and risk-taking in defense acquisitions.
