FBI Investigates Alleged Iranian Hack on Trump Campaign

The FBI has launched an investigation into claims by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign that the Iranian government hacked its internal communications. The investigation comes after the campaign reported that Microsoft informed them of the breach, stating that Iranian hackers had gained access to one of their websites. However, they were only able to obtain publicly available information.

The investigation, which began in June, also includes an alleged hack targeting advisers to President Joe Biden’s campaign, as reported by The Washington Post. While the Biden-Harris campaign has not yet commented, the report indicates that Iranian government-linked hackers attempted to steal data from both campaigns.

The Iranian government has denied involvement in the hack. The allegations have been linked to a report by Microsoft researchers, who indicated that Iranian hackers tried to infiltrate the account of a “high-ranking official” on a U.S. presidential campaign in June. The hackers reportedly took over a former political adviser’s account to target the official, though further details on the targets have not been disclosed.
