The FBI executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center in Union City, Georgia, on Wednesday as part of an investigation tied to the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Federal agents sought records related to that election and collected materials from the warehouse-style facility, which Georgia officials opened in 2023. Local authorities said the warrant covered a large number of election-related documents and ballots, while a law enforcement official indicated the search concluded later that night.
The action comes amid renewed focus from President Donald Trump on his longstanding claims that the 2020 election was marred by widespread fraud — allegations that multiple reviews and audits have previously rejected. Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory confirmed federal officials were removing hundreds of boxes of ballots from a secure location and criticized the move as politically motivated, calling it an “assault on voters.” County officials said they were reviewing possible legal responses. Separately, the Trump administration has filed a lawsuit seeking access to Fulton County’s 2020 ballots and related materials, which local court officials say are sealed under state law.
The search also drew attention because Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was seen at the site, an unusual development in a domestic law enforcement matter. Democratic lawmakers sharply criticized her presence, arguing intelligence leadership should remain separate from partisan disputes. The development follows a series of Justice Department actions involving election records in several states, some of which have faced legal challenges. Fulton County, home to Atlanta, played a key role in Georgia’s 2020 results, which saw Democrat Joe Biden narrowly win the state.
