Fugitive Couple Wanted for Child Abuse and Murder of Child Apprehended in Mexico as Five Rescued Children Returned to US

Five missing children from Washington state were discovered and rescued as their parents were arrested by authorities in Mexico, according to U.S. officials on Friday. The couple, identified as Edgar Salvador Casian-Garcia and Araceli Medina, were placed on the U.S. Marshals Service’s 15 Most Wanted list in February for various child abuse offenses, including suspected sex trafficking and the murder of a child in Washington state.

The couple fled to Mexico in 2021, triggering an international manhunt. They now face charges for the murder of a child and multiple counts of child sexual abuse. Mexican authorities have detained them while they await extradition to Washington.

The five rescued children have been placed in protective custody after returning to the U.S. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children announced that the couple faces charges for the murder of a child as well as multiple counts of child sexual abuse. The Mexican authorities will keep them in custody while the extradition process is ongoing.
