German Man Arrested at U.S. Embassy in Paraguay for Illegal Entry, Weapons Found in Vehicle

On Tuesday, a German man wearing a bulletproof vest was apprehended while attempting to enter the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay without proper documentation. Identified as Philipp Kolberg, the individual claimed he sought political asylum due to receiving threats. According to Paraguayan police commander Gilberto Fleitas, Kolberg stated that he contacted the embassy to speak with a diplomatic representative but was advised to approach the German embassy instead. Subsequently, upon driving his vehicle to the front of the U.S. Embassy in Asuncion, Kolberg was promptly arrested by authorities and private guards, as he lacked an appointment or relevant paperwork.

During the arrest, law enforcement officers discovered two firearms and ammunition in Kolberg’s vehicle. The confiscated items included a Glock pistol, a rifle equipped with a telescopic sight, a drone, and an estimated 30 to 50 bullets, revealed Fleitas. Notably, Kolberg has refrained from making any public statements regarding the incident. Paraguayan authorities are now coordinating with the German consulate in Asuncion to gather further information on the individual.

As of now, the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay has not released an official statement regarding the incident. The circumstances surrounding Kolberg’s attempted entry into the embassy and his possession of weapons raise concerns and prompt further investigation by authorities.
