In a tragic incident late Monday night, police responded to reports of gunfire in Fort Worth and discovered a devastating scene in a parking lot. Eleven shooting victims were found, with one pronounced dead at the scene and two others succumbing to their injuries in hospitals. The conditions of the remaining eight victims, who were transported to hospitals either by private vehicles or ambulances, were not immediately known. Police believe that ten of the victims were adults, while one was a juvenile. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The shooting took place in the Como neighborhood of Fort Worth, shortly after the conclusion of the neighborhood’s annual ComoFest, according to CBS Texas. Fort Worth Police Sergeant Jason Spencer informed the press that a large crowd had gathered in the parking lot before the shooting occurred, just before midnight. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, as Como is known for its efforts to foster positivity and celebration within the community and the city.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker expressed her devastation over the mass shooting, extending her sympathies to the victims, their families, and the entire Como community. She urged anyone with information or video footage related to the shooting or events leading up to it to contact the Fort Worth police at 817-392-4330. This incident adds to the unfortunate string of mass shootings that have occurred over the holiday weekend in major cities across the country. Just the night before, Philadelphia experienced a similar tragedy, with five people killed and two wounded by a heavy gunman in a bulletproof vest. Additionally, two individuals lost their lives, and 28 others were injured in a shooting at a holiday weekend block party in Baltimore on Sunday.
Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the Fort Worth shooting to determine the motive behind this senseless act of violence and to bring the perpetrators to justice. The community, city officials, and residents are grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event, as they seek solace and support one another during this difficult time.
