Meta and Snap Sued by a Mother for Their Daughter’s Suicide

A Connecticut lady is suing Instagram’s parent firm Meta and Snap Inc, claiming that her young daughter committed suicide as a result of her addiction to their social networking platforms.

Selena Rodriguez, an 11-year-old Enfield resident, committed suicide last year. The complaint claims that her death was caused by the platforms’ potentially harmful features. The case comes at a time when there is growing concern about the impact of social media on children.

According to the Social Media Victims Law Center (SMVLC), which filed the lawsuit in California on behalf of Selena’s mother, Tammy, the young child had an “extreme” addiction to Instagram and Snapchat.
