Five individuals, including four students, were wounded in a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday night at Morgan State University in Baltimore City. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect(s) involved in the incident, and as a precautionary measure, classes at the university have been canceled for Wednesday. The shooting unfolded in the vicinity of the Marshall Apartment Complex dormitories, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The victims, comprising four men and one woman aged between 18 and 22, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were subsequently transported to local hospitals, according to Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley. Four of the victims were students of Morgan State University. Although the exact motive behind the shooting remains unclear, investigators believe it occurred outdoors, with evidence of a shattered window on the seventh floor of the dorm building.
The shooting incident took place shortly after the crowning of Mr. and Ms. Morgan State University, marking the commencement of the university’s homecoming week events. University President Dr. David Wilson expressed his dismay over the senseless act of violence and conveyed the institution’s resilience in the face of adversity. Notably, this incident marks the third consecutive year of shootings during the university’s homecoming week, highlighting growing concerns over campus safety. Baltimore city officials, including Mayor Brandon Scott, have called for comprehensive national gun reform in response to the incident. Law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are actively involved in the ongoing investigation, urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
