Ohio Mother Indicted on Murder Charges After Allegedly Leaving Infant Alone for Vacation

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a mother from Ohio has been indicted on murder charges after allegedly leaving her infant daughter home alone for over a week while she went on vacation. Kristel Candelario, 31, reportedly abandoned her 16-month-old child at their Cleveland residence on June 6, embarking on a 10-day trip to Detroit, Michigan, and Puerto Rico, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. Upon her return, she discovered her daughter unresponsive and immediately called 911.

Prosecutor O’Malley expressed his disbelief at the situation, stating, “It is unfathomable that a mother would leave her 16-month-old child alone without any supervision for 10 days to go on a vacation.” He emphasized that parents have a duty to protect and care for their children, adding that the thought of the child suffering alone during her final days is truly horrifying. Authorities found the toddler in distressing conditions, with dirty blankets and a Pack-N-Play pin soiled with urine and feces. Tragically, the child was severely dehydrated at the time of her death.

Following her arrest on June 16, Candelario now faces serious charges. A grand jury has indicted her on an aggravated murder charge, along with two counts of murder. Additionally, she has been charged with felonious assault and endangering children. The court has set her bond at $1 million, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Currently, there is no listed attorney for Candelario in court records, leaving her legal representation uncertain as the case proceeds.
