Oscar Pistorius Denied Parole Again, Steenkamp’s Mother Says He Shows No Remorse

Oscar Pistorius, a former Olympic runner and Paralympic gold medalist, has been denied parole again by South Africa’s parole board. Pistorius was imprisoned more than a decade ago for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The parole board considered various factors, including Pistorius’s conduct and disciplinary record in prison, his participation in educational or other training courses during the last decade of incarceration, and his mental and physical state to assess whether he would still pose a threat to public safety. However, due to concerns raised about these factors, the board decided not to release Pistorius at this time.

Steenkamp’s mother June expressed her thoughts on Pistorius’s character and whether he showed any remorse for his actions. She made it clear that she did not believe Pistorius was sorry for what he had done. When asked about her feelings towards him, she admitted that it was challenging to be in the same room as him. The parole board hearing was closed to the public, and Steenkamp’s parents were expected to speak at the hearing, expressing their opposition to Pistorius being granted early parole.

This latest parole board hearing highlights the ongoing legal saga that has surrounded Oscar Pistorius since he was charged with the murder of Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. Despite serving more than a decade in prison, Pistorius will remain incarcerated for the time being. He will have the opportunity to reapply for parole in a year, but the decision will ultimately depend on the parole board’s assessment of whether he has made any progress in addressing the concerns raised during this latest hearing. Meanwhile, Steenkamp’s family continues to grieve their loss and seek justice for their daughter.
