Samsung Eyes Over $72 Billion Shareholder Return Plan

Samsung Electronics is set to announce a new shareholder return programme worth more than 100 trillion won ($71.75 billion) later this month, according to South Korean media reports. The plan is expected to include a special dividend as the world’s leading memory-chip maker looks to share record profits with investors amid a strong artificial intelligence-driven chip cycle.

Samsung’s board is expected to meet at the end of August to approve the programme, MoneyToday reported, citing unidentified industry sources. The company is reportedly considering allocating 50% of its free cash flow to shareholder returns. Samsung declined to comment on the reports.

The move follows rival SK Hynix’s announcement of a 40 trillion won share buyback and cancellation programme, the largest shareholder return plan announced by a South Korean listed company. SK Hynix also plans to allocate more than 50% of its free cash flow generated between 2025 and 2027 to shareholder returns, highlighting the growing benefits of the AI boom for the country’s semiconductor giants.
