SC observes the child drug addicts are encouraged to become drug peddlers

 

 

The Supreme Court of India observed that the children are encouraged to become the drug peddlers once they are addicted to some kind of drugs. The important observation regarding the substance abuse among the children was made by a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur. While delivering the verdict, the Supreme Court ordered the central government to formulate a feasible action plan to curb the rising substance abuse among the children. The authorities were also advised to conduct a national wide survey on the substance abuse among the children. The court further observed that the respective authorities may include those contents educating the harmful effects of the substance abuse in the school curriculum to curb the usage of the drugs among the school children.

The petition seeking the government authority’s intervention in the substance abuse issue among the children was submitted by Bachao Bachao Andolan, an NGO founded by Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi. As per the report, advocate H S Phoolka appeared for the petitioner. The advocate requested the court that the centre government should be directed to set up rehabilitation and de-addiction centres in each district across the country. Recently, a regional media based in Kerala reported an investigative story regarding the Cannabis among the school children. In that investigative video footage, some school children were seen selling Cannabis to the investigative reporter who tactically approached them as a customer.
