Semi-Truck Driver Charged with Felonies after Fatal Crash Linked to TikTok Use

A tragic car accident in Arizona earlier this year resulted in the deaths of five individuals, and now a semi-truck driver has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the incident. According to officials, 36-year-old Danny Tiner was “actively using” the popular social media platform TikTok on his cell phone just moments before the crash. The accident occurred on January 12, when Tiner, traveling eastbound on Interstate 10, failed to stop in time, leading to a six-vehicle collision.

Investigations revealed that Tiner had received a message on his electronic work tablet, which he acknowledged before turning his attention back to the road. However, by then, it was too late to prevent the collision. Tiner’s semi-truck struck two passenger vehicles, trapping them between another commercial truck. The impact caused a chain reaction, involving two additional cars. Tragically, the two passenger vehicles became engulfed in flames, leading to the fatalities. The accident took place in an area where traffic had already been halted due to an earlier collision involving three commercial trucks.

Further examination by the Arizona Department of Public Safety indicated that Tiner was not only speeding at the time of the accident, traveling at 68 mph in a posted 55-mph construction zone, but he was also actively using the TikTok application on his cell phone. The evidence was obtained after Tiner surrendered his phone, which underwent a forensic examination. As a result, Tiner has been charged with ten felony counts, including five charges of manslaughter, four counts of endangerment, and one count of tampering with physical evidence. The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of distracted driving and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives.
