Sindipetro-NF Rejects Petrobras Proposal, Extending 12-Day Strike

Brazil’s Sindipetro-NF, one of the largest unions representing state-run oil giant Petrobras workers, has rejected the company’s latest proposal to end a 12-day strike. The union, which represents around 25,000 oil industry workers — including crews on offshore platforms in the Campos Basin, Brazil’s second-largest oil-producing region — said in a statement on Friday that its members voted against the agreement endorsed earlier by the national oil workers’ federation FUP’s board.

Despite the ongoing stoppage, Petrobras said operations remain unaffected so far, as contingency teams have been deployed to maintain production. While all 13 other unions under FUP voted to call off the strike, Sindipetro-NF’s refusal means protests will continue at least in some facilities. The dispute centers on complex issues involving pension fund policies and payment deductions affecting retirees, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

Adding to the divisions within the labor movement, another umbrella organization, FNP, has advised its affiliated unions to continue the protest after its board also opposed the Petrobras proposal. With competing positions among unions and unresolved pension-related demands, the conflict may stretch further, raising concerns over the potential long-term impact on the company’s labor relations and operations.
