Teen Kills Parents in Tampa, Engages in Gunfight with Police

Authorities in Tampa, Florida, have released bodycam footage showing a violent altercation between police and a 19-year-old identified as Christos Alexander Themelis Jr. The teenager fatally shot his parents, 51-year-old Christos Byron Themelis and 48-year-old Rebecca Ann Themelis, during the incident. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers responded to a frantic 911 call from Rebecca Ann, who stated her son had shot her husband.

When police arrived at the scene, they instructed Rebecca Ann to walk towards them, but Christos Jr. shot her in the back of the head as she moved across the lawn. He then fired at the officers, wounding Deputy Shane McGough, 26, in the leg. McGough received immediate medical attention and was transported to a local hospital.

The gunfight resulted in Christos Jr. being critically injured. He retreated into the house and barricaded himself. When the SWAT team eventually entered the home, they discovered both Christos Jr. and his father dead. Authorities believe the teenager succumbed to the injuries sustained during the shootout.
