Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to file a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the paper of spreading “decades-long lies” about him, his family, and the MAGA movement. Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed the lawsuit, to be filed in Florida, is the largest of its kind and described the Times as a “mouthpiece for the radical Left Democrat Party.” He further alleged that the newspaper’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris amounted to an “illegal campaign contribution.”
The move comes days after Trump rejected reports linking him to a birthday note addressed to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which House Democrats released as part of evidence obtained from Epstein’s estate. Trump denied writing or signing the letter, dismissing it as a fabrication. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also denied the claims, adding that Trump’s legal team is preparing lawsuits against multiple media outlets for spreading “falsehoods.”
Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, was previously known to have social ties with Trump in Florida and New York. Trump has long maintained that he cut ties with Epstein after disputes at Mar-a-Lago. He now insists the renewed allegations are a political attempt to undermine his record and 2025 campaign prospects.
