U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned that military operations against narcotics traffickers will continue following Tuesday’s strike on a Venezuelan vessel that killed 11 people. Speaking on Fox News, Hegseth said the mission was “deadly serious” and emphasized that American forces have “assets in the air, assets in the water, assets on ships” to pursue drug traffickers in the region.
The strike, announced by President Donald Trump, marked the first known operation since his administration deployed warships to the southern Caribbean. The vessel was allegedly carrying illegal narcotics when it was targeted by U.S. forces, underscoring Washington’s renewed push against drug smuggling networks operating in the area.
Hegseth issued a stern warning that any individual or group identified as a “designated Narco terrorist” in those waters would face the same fate. The operation signals a clear escalation in U.S. counter-narcotics efforts, with officials framing the campaign as part of a broader security initiative to stem the flow of drugs into the United States.
