US Senate Approves ChatGPT and Other AI Chatbots for Official Use

The United States Senate has approved the official use of several artificial intelligence chatbots, including ChatGPT, according to a report by the New York Times citing an internal memo. The decision allows Senate aides to use AI-powered tools as part of their official work, marking a significant step in the integration of advanced technology into government operations.

Under the approval, staff members will be permitted to use Google’s Gemini chat, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Microsoft’s Copilot. The report noted that these AI systems are already integrated into certain Senate platforms, enabling aides to access them for tasks such as drafting content, research, and administrative support.

A spokesperson for Microsoft told Reuters that the company was looking into the reported approval. Meanwhile, Google and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the Senate’s decision to permit the use of their AI tools.
