Invalidating all controversial appointments made by one of the powerful factions of the AIADMK party after the unexpected demise of the iron lady of South Indian politics, J Jayalalithaa, the newly emerged faction, led by the two small factions of K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, in a general council meeting held at a marriage hall in Vanagaram in Chennai, has ousted the leader of the powerful faction, V K Sasikala, from the post of interim general secretary of the party, the post she forcefully assumed during the political tug-of-war which happened in the aftermath of AIADMK former leader’s death.
The council has not only unseated the autocratic leader but also scrapped the controversial post of general secretary, which helped the erstwhile leaders of the party to rule the party with an iron fist, citing the fact that there is no charismatic leader in the party at present.
Though the resolution has not clearly mentioned the reason for the removal of the post and the leader from the post, the resolution seeking the removal has been unanimously approved in the general council meeting.
The new move is likely to weaken the faction of Ms Sasikala, who is serving a prison term in Bengaluru prison.
