The world’s largest democratic country has proudly marked a historic achievement when a remote village located in Manipur, the last village without electricity, has been successfully connected to the electricity grid.
In India, a village is considered electrified if at least ten per cent of its total household and all public buildings such as schools and hospitals enjoy the benefit of access to electricity.
So, even though the Asian country has been declared itself as a fully electrified country, it does not mean that each and every household of the country has the benefit of access to electricity.
Nonetheless, it is a great achievement, given the fact that not many Asian countries have achieved any significant gains in this front.
As per a data released by the World Bank, as many as 200 million people living in this land of Vedas lack access to electricity.
The present victory made by the Indian government is the natural outcome of an ambitious project, worth 2.5 Billion US Dollars, envisaged by the government at the behest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a year after he was inducted in the top post.
It is reported that the aforesaid program has helped to gift the benefit of access to electricity to nearly five million households, mostly situated in the rural regions of the country.
