Days after the second death anniversary of M M Kalburgi, who was allegedly killed by the Hindutva activists for taking a strong stand against the Hindutva ideology, another anti-Hindutva activist, renowned journalist Gauri Lankesh, has been brutally killed in Bengaluru, Karnataka, for the same reason. Many renowned activists have expressed shock and participated in the protests which have been triggered by the unfortunate incident. Several opposition leaders including the CPI (M) has condemned the brutal murder of the legendary journalist.
Ms Gauri Lankesh, the daughter of P Lankesh who founded popular vernacular weekly Lankesh Patrika, was a fearless journalist. She worked with the marginalised community members particularly the Dalits. She was one of the activists who worked in the field of bringing the Naxalite members to the mainstream politics. Because of the nature of the work she was involved in and her way of reacting to the unacceptable tendencies of the society like the rise of the Hindutva, she invited ire of several political groups, particularly the right wing political outfits. It is learned that she was associated with an anti-right organisation, Komu Sauharda Vedika. At this moment, it is not clear why the activist has been killed and who is behind this brutal activity. As per the report, the authorities have constituted a special task force to investigate the brutal murder. According to the report, they have recovered the CCTV footage of the incident.
