Forcing the Tunisian government to call in the army and security officials to protect the official buildings and banks, the peaceful anti-austerity protest, which began last week, has turned into a violent protest.
The protesters have attacked the security forces, government buildings, banks and shops. At least three hundred people have been arrested by the security officials in last night alone.
As per the latest updates, it is the third consecutive day that the country has witnessed a violent protest.
As per the official data, since last week around six hundred people have been booked by the security forces in connection with the protest.
The protesters have demanded that the government should withdraw the new budget in which several serious austerity measures have been proposed.
Anyway, the Tunisian Prime Minister, Youssef Chahed, has condemned the violent protests organised by the protesters.
Importantly, there have been indications in the PM’s statement that the country’s economy would become better next year.
By now, the protest, which marked its beginning in the state capital in last week, has successfully spread to at least ten other regions across the country.
It has been the IMF’s statement that Tunisia should initiate serious measures to bring down the budget deficit that has promoted the government to include serious austerity measures in the 2018 budget.
