As a perfect climax to the three-day long suspense thriller produced by the Kerala police and a Bishop who was accused of rape, the police have arrested the Bishop.
The Bishop is expected to be produced before the judicial system today. The police are likely to seek the custody of the Bishop once he will be produced in the court, as per a latest update.
It is learned that there is enough evidence with the police to believe that there is merit in the complaint filed against the Bishop by the victim.
The issue triggered a state-wide outrage. A group of nuns organised a hunger strike demanding the arrest of the Bishop. Several intellectuals, activists, social workers and journalists came forward with a strong support.
It is after the declaration of the arrest only the nuns have, through temporarily, ceased their hunger strike. The huge support the movement demanding the arrest has gained is the prime reason why the Kerala police have acquired a degree of autonomy, particularly from the interference of the politicians who are in powerful positions, in this investigation to bring out the truth.
The coming days are very crucial for the case. How much sincerity the investigators will show in the case in the future –or in other words, how much autonomy the police will get during the future investigation process of this case- will decide the future of this controversial case.
