In order to foil the growing neo-Nazi movement in Europe, the Austrian government finally decided to demolish the controversial building where Adolf Hitler was born.It is said that the German Fuhrer was born in a rented room located near the German-Austria border on April 20, 1889.During the early period of Nazi regime, the building was considered as a sacred place and it attracted several travellers.
Later, after 1944, the relevance of the building unsurprisingly reduced. And, it was eventually closed down.Anyway, after the fall of Nazi empire, the Nazi sympathisers started visiting this building turning it a pilgrim place of the neo-Nazis.Several local people informed the International Medias that yearly several people visit this place in search of the Hitler’s birthplace.Notably, the building has been the subject of years of legal war between the owner, Gerlinde Pommer and the Austrian government. It is learned that she was not ready to sell the building to the government. Since late 90s, the building had been working as a disability house till 2010.But, for the last five years, the owner has not been allowing any kind of renovation or business inside the building.Anyway, some cultural organisation demanded that the building should be classified and protected as a heritage site.It seems that the Austrian government does not want to take a risk this time because they had once faced the consequence of extreme neo-Nazism.Moreover, the preponderance of Austrian citizens is not that enthusiastic on turning the Hitler’s birthplace into a heritage site. The disturbing fact is that the neo-Nazism is growing in Europe. In several regions of the continent, the pro-Nazi fighters and sympathisers are gaining firm ground as well as positive acceptance.
