Canadian authorities initiate social media campaign to get more woman students in STEM

In line with the UN’s advice that it is necessary to get more woman students in the STEM programs, like Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, the Canadian government has initiated a social media campaign aiming to achieve that goal. The campaigners have launched a website which contains some simple, interesting, experiments. It is believed that these contents would encourage the woman students to take up the STEM programs. It is learned that ‘Choose Science’ is the tagline given to the remarkable campaign launched by the Canadian government.

The authorities have sought the support of the teachers and parents to make the campaign a huge success. Earlier, the UN warned that the fall in the rate of women joining the STEM programs could be considered as a ‘wake-up call’. A report published by the UNESCO claimed that only twenty-two per cent people who are working in the science and technology section are presently women. The report identified that the rate would fall even more in coming days until and unless we execute concrete measures to overcome the crisis. It is said that there is no concrete growth in the rate of STEM woman graduates happening in even the developed countries like the US, the UK and Germany. In that sense, the present situation of Canada can be termed as satisfactory. At least, their rates are no as low as other developed countries. According to the report, there is a general educational trend that women are more encouraged to take up life science subjects rather than STEM subjects. At this moment, we are not aware that how much impact will it make on the global educational trends.
