Centre to roll out new policy to encourage private partnership in domestic defence manufacturing

In order to bring down the India’s dependence on the foreign nations particularly Russia, the US and the western nations such as France and Italy for the defence materials such as the aircraft, submarines, ships and arms and ammunitions, India has decided to roll out a domestic defence manufacturing policy. According to the report, in the new policy, there is provision to encourage the private participation in this sensitive sector which is directly linked to the security and safety of our country. As a part of this policy, the 1.5 lakh crores worth defence deals are set to be inked under the strategic partnership model in which the private sector gets adequate opportunity to take part without spoiling the public sector’s interest and national interest. If it is implemented, the centre government can considerably reduce the import of defence products.

Anyway, the plan has been approved by the Defence Acquisition Council. It is learned that it will be submitted to the Finance Ministry for approval. It is said that if it gets the assent of the Finance Ministry, it will be forwarded to the Cabinet for final approval. It is a fact that the ambitious policy will definitely help the BJP government to improve its image domestically and globally even if it is likely to displease the global defence material manufacturing conglomerates. India depends on Russia for nearly seventy per cent of its defence material requirement. Unless and until a concrete domestic defence material manufacturing policy is implemented, India cannot firmly protect its national interest.
