Colombia set to ink new peace deal with FARC

Reassuring the possibility of a new peace deal, the Colombian governed has announced that it would ink a new peace agreement with the FARC rebels.Notably, last month, the Colombian citizens rejected the initial peace agreement reached between the Colombian government and FARC rebels. It seems that the government may not try its luck by putting the new proposal to a popular vote this time. As per the report, the authorities will present the new proposal directly in the Colombian congress itself.

The endless war between the FARC rebels and Colombian security forces has so far killed over two lakh people. If the Colombian congress approves the new proposal, it will end this fifty-year long war.Experts say that the old proposal did not possess adequate provisions to punish the guilty rebels, so it failed during the referendum seeking approval of the initial peace dossier, which was created around two months ago. Moreover, several critics alleged that the initial deal was a pro-rebel peace treaty. As per the report, the negotiators have made nearly fifty concrete changes in the peace dossier in order to turn the document acceptable. However, this time, the authorities can effortlessly clear the new proposal as the ruling government enjoys a concrete majority in their congress. While speaking to the media persons, the Colombian supremo admits that the new proposal also cannot satisfy everyone equally. He added that he respects and welcomes all critical voices expected to rise against the deal.
