Election commission confiscates illicit money from poll-bound constituencies 

As we are aggressively moving towards the most-sensitive regional elections, the Election Commission of India recently confiscated illicit money worth nearly forty six crore rupee from the poll-bound states of our country. According to the reports, majority of the confiscated illicit money was from Tamil Nadu and Assam. As per reports, around eighteen crore rupee was confiscated from the Dravidian region and nearly eleven crore rupee was seized from Assam. At the same time, the authorities have captured around eight crore rupee from West Bengal and more than seven crore rupee from Kerala. Comparatively, Puducherry stands far behind in the race of illicit funds. So far, the authorities have only confiscated sixty lakh rupees from the Union Territory. The tracking operation of illicit money was carried by a special team of surveillance officers who were purposefully appointed by the Election commission for the tracking job. It is learned that some officers from the Income tax department have also joined the team to strengthen its surveillance network extensively. Media quoted as a senior official as saying; the surveillance team had so far tracked nearly forty six crore rupee and their work is hopefully progressing. West Bengal and Assam have opened their poll stations for the first phase of the election on today. Anyway, south states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu will open their poll station on coming May 16. Experts say that the illicit funds and black money are diluting democratic system of our country. And, this may eventually derail the democratic system if it is left unchecked, experts added.
