The activists, who actively participated in the anti-Sterlite Copper plant protest in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu’s costal district of Thoothukudi, has alleged that the First Information Reports submitted in the Thoothukudi police firing case have been developed in such a way that it contains all necessary provisions to exonerate those involved in the heinous crime of targeted shooting.

The FIRs filed in the police stations under which the crime of firing took place have clearly said that the firing was done with the support of the orders made by the officials holding ranks as high as Tahsildar. The FIRs has also asserted that those officials operated at the field at the time when the firing was done took all necessary steps to avoid the usage of bullets against the protesters. The FIRs has claimed that several warnings and less dangerous means were used to disperse the crowd before the usage of the fatal mean of gun firing.

Denouncing all claims made by the FIRs, the activists have asked why the district collector was not present at the venue when the incident happened and why the police officials failed to present the CCTV footages or any other video footages to justify their claims along with the FIRs.
