The first ever photographed black hole has been named “Powehi”. The name which literally translates to ’embellished dark source of unending creation’ was designated by astronomers and renowned Hawaiian language professor Larry Kimua
Powehi’s photograph was a landmark achievement in the field of astronomy. The picture was taken by the Event Horizon Telescope, a network of telescopes around the world that interconnect to form a mega earth-sized telescope possessing an unprecedented resolution. “We are delighted to report to you today that we have seen what we thought was unseeable”, said Sheperd S Doeleman, the EHT project director of the Center for Astrophysics, Harvard & Smithsonian.
The picture rightly proves Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity which predicted the existence of black holes.
Powehi went viral on social media in the form of memes following its official release to the public.
