Erasing the confusions around the budget presentation and putting an end to the speculations regarding the date of the presentation triggered after the unexpected death of E Ahamed, the senior leader of the Indian Union Muslim League and the former Union Minister of state for External Affairs in the erstwhile UPA government, the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, has arrived in the parliament with a suitcase containing the budget dossiers. It is learned that the obituary to the former minister who died of a cardiac arrest in Delhi will be given before the presentation of the Union Budget 2017-18. This year’s budget is very special because this is the first time in the history of the independent India a budget session is conducted in early February.
Moreover, for the first time, this time, the railway budget and union budget is merged together and presented by the Finance Minister itself- earlier, the railway budget was used to be presented by the railway minister. Deviating from the traditional ways used by the government to interact with the common public and utilising the new digital space to ensure more productive interaction among the public regarding the budget, the government, this time, provides a special opportunity to the public to shoot their questions directly to the FM, by writing their questions under the hashtag ‘MYQuestionToFM’, through their twitter handle. The budget session, which begins today, will end on February 9. The second session of the budget will commence from March 9. More details about the budget contents are yet to be publicised.
