In what could be termed as an unusual way to control the substance abuse, France is set to unveil its first drug room this week. In order to reduce the risk of using drugs, a hospital located in Paris is planning to open a drug room on this Friday offering a monitored and harmless drug usage. The project was officially inaugurated by the Paris Mayor, Anne Hidalgo, and French Health Minister Marisol Touraine. The drug room is situated in a strategical region where the crimes related to the drug usage are extremely high. It is learned that the proposed drug room is an experimental project aimed to reduce the risk of drug usage. It is estimated that nearly ten per cent of the drug users in the country has HIV or even Aids. Moreover, it is said that nearly forty per cent of the drug users in the country has hepatitis C, which is, in fact, one of the highly dangerous diseases. The advocates of the new project claim that using drug in a healthy and clean environment reduce the risk considerably. But, both advocates and critics of this project unanimously admit that the usage of the drug is extremely harmful to us. Meanwhile, the advocates added that in the drug room the users can meet medical persons and social workers so if they cooperate with them they can easy get rid of this harmful habit slowly. Anyway, critics strongly believe that it will fuel drug usage. They added that the state is indirectly helping the drug users. Several European countries- like Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Canada, and Australia- have similar drug rooms.
