French police have raided the headquarters of the French Rugby Federation situated in Marcoussis as part of its investigation into the alleged favouritism shown by FFR President Bernard Laporte.
The police officials have also conducted searches in the residence of Mr. Laporte. At this moment, it is not clear whether any concrete documents which prove the involvement of the FFR president in the alleged favouritism.
The prime allegation against Mr. Laporte is that he pressurised the FFR appeal committee to drop a sanction imposed on Montpellier, the rugby club owned by Mohed Altrad with whom the FFR president had business relations.
There are allegations that Mr. Laporte accepted bribe from the businessman in order to speak in favour of his cause in the FFR appeal committee where the Montpellier Rugby Club’s issue were discussed for pronouncing a final decision.
It is not the first time a sport regulatory body has been mired in the favouritism allegations. In the recent past, several sports regulatory bodies including the highest football regulatory body have suffered similar issue.
It is the high time for the International organisations, the west, the respective countries to create feasible policies in order to weed out such issues from the sports section, which ought to be the less corrupted sector in the world.
