Denouncing the unenthusiastic way that the European Union has responded to the victory of Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a German minister, Horst Seehofer, has said that the Union must drop its arrogance and condescension towards Hungary.
In a sense, the support that the Hungary PM has received from the German minister is more important in terms of political significance than the second consecutive victory Mr Orban secured in his country’s election.
Pro-European observers earlier claimed that the Hungary election was not conducted in a free and fare manner and it was marred by the biased practices of media houses operating in that country.
They further alleged that the opposition were made to contest in an unfair match in which the winner was already fixed by the media houses.
It is a truth that in the run-up to the elections the ruling government grabbed more media support than the opposition and the media houses purposefully glorified the protectionist policies taken by the Hungary Supremo projecting him as the saviour of the country.
It is the anti-Muslim and anti-Immigration attitude of the Hungary leader which makes him less acceptable to the European Union leaders who always advocate liberal policies.
Can the German minister’s statement be considered as the opinion of Germany?
